The BlkRobot Project
The BlkRobot Project
The BLKRobot Project is a 21st-century learning institution founded in Baltimore Maryland in 2017. The goal of the project is to create experiential learning opportunities for children, particularly children and communities that have traditionally been ignored or denied resources by the powers that be. We have spent the past seven years creating an ecosystem of STEM based classes and workshops that include coding, robotics and rocketry. This ecosystem is the ground work for our capstone project, the creation of ”SoulBot 1.0”. SoulBot is a large functional 25 foot high robotic sculpture that will serve as an experiential, cooperatively operated stem learning hub while also functioning as a disruptive economic driver that will bring economic benefits to a predominantly black neighborhood. It will be the first true iteration of how 21st century education will look as we push forward into the post pandemic age of automation.
This adventure has taken us to classrooms in the United States and now Africa. We have gained a firm concept of implementing localized STEM programming in safe spaces to build foundational skills for our children. We have learned to transform spaces that place children at risk and make them safe spaces for for their development. We also realize that 21st Century learning requires that we innovate and reshape learning spaces and learning materials. Out of this need, SoulBot Saturday Design Squad was started and SoulBot is being built.
The BlkRobot Project seeks to remain in the vanguard for building equitable learning opportunities for our youth.
